About Us
Key Laboratory of Insect Developmental and Evolutionary Biology (IDEB), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was approved and established in 2009. The Director of IDEB is Professor Sibao Wang. The Chairman of IDEB academic committee is Professor Le Kang.
Currently, there are one academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, ten full professors at IDEB. The research conducted at IDEB are mainly centered on insect developmental biology and immunity, insect functional and population genomics, and insect-microbe/plant interactions. The mission of IDEB is to reveal molecular and genetic basis of insect development, evolution, immunity, and interactions between insects and pathogens as well as the interactions between insects and plants. The knowledge acquired from the researches is used to develop innovative insect pest control strategies, including the development of techniques and approaches for genetic control and biological control of insect pest populations. In addition, IDEB works together with the Shanghai Entomological Museum to train and educate graduates for advanced insect sciences, and to spread and broaden insect knowledge for general audience.
During the past few years, the scientists at IDEB have been undertaking key research projects from the Ministry of Sciences and Technology, National Natural Sciences Foundation of China, and Chinese Academy of Sciences. A series of high impact papers have been published in the journals such as Science, Nature, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Microbiology, Nature Ecology & Evolution, PNAS, Science Advances, Nature Communications, Cell Chemical Biology, Genome Biology, Genes & Development, Cell Research, Autophagy, National Science Review, The ISME J, Plant Physiology, Genome Biology and Evolution, PLoS Pathogens, New Phytologist, etc.
